Live Reading of Screenplay “Dumped on Christmas” at #EOFF2022

The Eastern Oregon Film Festival is thrilled to announce a special event as part of this year’s festival: a live reading of a new feature length screenplay DUMPED ON CHRISTMAS.

Twenty-something Ben brings his longtime girlfriend Cassie to his rural Oregon hometown for the Christmas holiday to meet his parents and siblings for the first time. The night they arrive, an argument turns into a breakup, and the holiday goes from Xmas to Ex-mas as Cassie is now stuck with her newly minted ex and his family until the end of the holiday. Drama, comedy, and serious heartache ensue.

About the Event:

The live reading will be a first of its kind event: a screenplay set in La Grande read onstage by a combination of visiting filmmakers and local actors. For those unfamiliar with the format, live readings involve scripts yet to be produced being read onstage as a way to workshop the material with a live audience ahead of production.

Written by H. Nelson Tracey, this screenplay was conceived in conjunction with the inaugural Eastern Oregon Filmmaker Residency in May of 2021. Nelson was one of 6 participants who spent one month writing and developing feature length screenplays with local production in mind.

Festival director Christopher  Jennings and Nelson are both available for questions about the script, the residency, and the production. Contact director@eofilmfest.com for Press Inquiries.

Event will be on Friday at 1PM in the Schwartz Theater at EOU, October 21, 2022

About the writer:

H. Nelson Tracey is a writer, director, and editor based in Los Angeles. Two of his short films have played at EOFF in previous years: Picture Jasper and Conspiracy Party. His documentary editing work can be found on multiple streaming platforms – most recently, he worked on Netflix’s Eat the Rich: The GameStop Saga, released in September 2022. In May of 2021 he was one of 6 filmmakers who participated in the inaugural Eastern Oregon Filmmaker Residency. He wrote DUMPED ON CHRISTMAS with the intent to make it his feature directorial debut, to be produced in La Grande.

About the Residency:

The Eastern Oregon Filmmaker Residency is a month-long retreat for writers & directors to have designated time and space to work on a feature length screenplay. The goal of this 4-week program is for artists to walk away with a draft that has the potential to be produced in Oregon in the coming years, and for attendees to learn about resources and opportunities available to them for filmmaking in this region. Most importantly, this is a dedicated and focused time for talented writers to produce work in whatever form they see fit. Unlike most artist residencies, this is specifically geared toward filmmakers. 6 filmmakers were selected for the inaugural program. Applications are now open for the second installment in May 2023.
